As we wave goodbye to 2022 and welcome in the new year, we look forward to the new fashion and trends that we will see.
However, here at Cohorted Cult we also want to take the time to look back on the year just gone and reflect on some of 2022’s most fashionable moments.
So, from Vogue covers to eyebrow trends, we share with you some of our standout fashion moments, that we can’t imagine any of us will forget anytime soon!
1.
On The Go
Our first memorable moment happened in Paris on 30 September 2022 when Parisian fashion brand, Coperni, ended their Spring/ Summer 23 show by spray painting a dress onto Bella Hadid live.
Developed by Fabrican, a spray-on fabric technology company and said to have a suede like feel, this sprayable dress reminds us just how amazing fashion can be, how creative the design process is, and the incredible things technology can do.
This moment is definitely one that will go down in fashion history!
2.
Flying Solo
Another historic fashion moment from last year is Timothée Chalamet appearing on the cover of British Vogue, making him the first solo male cover star in the magazines 106-year history.
In his editor’s letter of the October issue, Edward Enninful explains Timothée was chosen due to his ‘relationship to a new generation that dismantles old-fashioned notions of masculinity.’
He goes on to write: ‘By the nature of his unfiltered authenticity, he is leading a quiet revolution in fashion, the arts and celebrity. It was a thrill and I’m honoured to have him as British Vogue’s first solo male cover star.’
Not only is this a first for Vogue but it highlights how far fashion has come and how the definitions of masculinity and femininity in society are shifting as we see an influx of people using fashion to express who they are and not who they feel they have to be.
3.
Saying Goodbye To Mugler
On a sadder note, last year was the year in which we said goodbye to legendary designer Manfred Thierry Mugler, who died 23 January 2022, aged 73.
His story starts in Paris where he launched his own boutique in 1974 but by the 1980’s Mugler had quickly established himself as a world-class designer.
Known for his extravagance and theatrics, some of his most loved creations, alongside his fragrances Alien and Angel, include: the black dress worn by Demi Moore in the 1993 film Indecent Proposal, Kim Kardashian’s crystal-studded ‘wet dress’ for the 2019 Met Gala and most famously the Motorcycle bustier worn by Beyoncé on her I am Sasha Fierce world tour.
He is a figure that will be deeply missed in the fashion world and may he rest in peace.
4.
Summer of Sustainability
Last year saw a real shift in attitudes towards fashion consumption as many of us move towards shopping in a more sustainable manner.
Over the summer Love Island were pioneers for second hand fashion as they entered a partnership with eBay, which saw the contestants wearing preloved clothing throughout the series.
Following on from that finalist Tasha Ghouri went on to work with eBay to release a preloved collection, and now acts as an ambassador for second hand fashion.
We hope to see these kinds of partnerships continue into 2023 as we try to make the fashion world a more sustainable place by encouraging people to re-wear and re-love old pieces.
5.
Trending
Last but not least we take a look back at one of the biggest beauty trends from 2022 and inevitably ask ourselves, what were we thinking?
You guessed it, I’m talking about the bleached brows.
From celebrities such as Kendall Jenner and Olly Alexander to social media stars such as Olivia Neill, the bleached eyebrow look was everywhere.
Whilst it may not have been everyone’s cup of tea it most definitely had a prominent place on red carpets throughout the year and it definitely won’t be forgotten.
Let us know your thoughts and what your most memorable fashion moments from 2022 are.
