Here are some that we love… To keep you healthy and feeling great from top to toe, as well as protecting your skin from the effects of the cold.
Healthy, Glowing Face: Banana Turmeric Face Mask
You’ll Need
- 1 ripe banana (place the peel in your plants to help them grow faster!)
- ¼ teaspoon turmeric/circumin powder
- 1 teaspoon ground orange peel
Bananas have fantastic health properties… Not only if you eat them! Did you know that banana peels are packed with antioxidants and bioactive compounds that can boost your health? Not to mention that one piece of fruit contains around 75% water, so it’s great for moisture too.
This recipe uses all that goodness along with turmeric powder, which has its own spectacular properties. This combo will make your skin glow and give it a bit of protection against the cold! It’s also filled with all-natural stuff, so your skin won’t have to deal with any chemicals.
Method
Mash the banana until it’s no longer lumpy. Add the two powders and mix it up really well. Apply it to your skin, leave it for 20 to 25 minutes, wash it off, and enjoy the feeling!
Luscious Lips: Sugar Coffee Scrub
Our lips tend to be left out when it comes to pampering! But they need as much protection from the cold as anywhere else. This lip scrub is designed to help exfoliate the lips and remove dead, dry skin that can cause painful cracking.
It’s safe to do every other day. Every day will leave your lips too sensitive! Simply mix up these ingredients, keep the mix in a small jar, and it should last a while.
Method
Mix them together well (it’s easier when the oil is melted). The bonus is that it’s filled with natural and tasty stuff, so you don’t need to worry if you catch a taste of it!
You’ll Need
- A tablespoon of brown, granulated sugar
- A tablespoon of coconut oil (olive oil can also be used)
- Small pinch of coffee/cocoa
Rest of Body: Aloe Vera Body Scrub
You’ll Need
- A cup of aloe vera gel
- 1.5 cups of Himalayan pink salt (you can use sea salt too
- Half a cup of almond oil (or coconut oil)
- 10 to 12 drops of essential oil (lavender, chamoil, and sandalwood are great for skin!)
It’s not just your face you need to take extra care of during winter! The rest of your body deserves a bit of protective pampering too, and this aloe vera body scrub does just that.
Aloe vera has well-known healing properties for the skin, which means any dry, cracked, or flaky skin will be soothed and restored with this scrub.
Method
Mix this together and store it in a glass jar that’s air-tight. You can vary the amount of salt depending on your preference. We recommend using it twice a week to give your skin some rejuvenation and repair any damage caused by the cold!
Rough Elbow Hack: Orange Halves!
If you don’t mind being a little sticky for a short while, this hack may get rid of rough, scaly elbows and knees forever!
They say oranges are great at fighting off colds and flu in the winter, but they can also be helpful for dry, rough elbows and knees. You don’t eat them, though—simply cut one in half and rub it on the dry skin!
It’s a little wet and a little sticky, but it does a wonderful job of moisturising the skin and alleviating dryness!
Shave Save: Coconut Oil
This natural vegan shaving cream also smells amazing! Coconut oil is another super ingredient that shows evidence of skin-rejuvenating properties, and nobody minds smelling like coconut after a shower or bath!
Get rid of winter razer rash with this moisturising compound. There’s really no recipe behind it—just massage about a teaspoon of coconut oil into your skin before shaving. It’s that simple!
Chemical-free, vegan, sweet-scented, and moisturising. What more could you want from a shaving lotion?
Final Thoughts
Winter doesn’t have to wreak havoc on your skin! And being vegan doesn’t have to mean a frustrating search for vegan skincare products. Making your own means you know exactly what goes into them, and you can have a bit of fun creating your own recipes too!
Stay warm and stay moisturised!
