10 Of The Best Things To Do In January

Like those blue Bounty bars in a Celebration tub, we reckon we can speak for the rest of the nation when saying that January is quite possibly the worst month in the calendar. The come down from Crimbo might be very real but we got in touch with DesignMyNight for 10 fun ways to make the most out of the month.

From free Caleno mocktails to mouth-watering Veganuary burgers, there’s plenty of healthy ways to eat and drink, not to mention trippy art exhibitions and afternoon tea in one of London’s coolest landmarks. Maybe January doesn’t have to be so bad afterall…

Get A Free Caleno Mocktail at Piano Works

You might have heard of Piano Works. It’s the place where you can slide music requests to a live band on a napkin. This joint brings the party every day of the week and you better believe it’s not slowing down for January. They’ve teamed up with the non-alcoholic spirit Caleno to bring London’s biggest ever mocktail menu to life. There’s over 30 drinks to choose from and when you book through DesignMyNight you and everyone at your table will get a free mocktail. Chin chin.

Test Your Skills At Big Bakes

If you think you can pull off an apron and you’re comfortable with taking heat in the kitchen, add Big Bakes onto your January bucket list. This unique experience will provide you with all the ingredients to bake a masterpiece in a huge tent. You’ll be battling it out against other teams and when the 90 minutes is up, they’ll announce the winner. If you head to their venue in East London, don’t dare leave without seeking out their secret bar. It has cake-themed cocktails and it’s rumoured to be hidden behind a fridge.

Get Lost In Fine Art at Frameless

It’s the start of a brand new year, so why not push the boat out and try something that’s completely out of the ordinary. Frameless is London’s newest multi-sensory digital art experience and it can be found right in the heart of London. It will see you immersing yourself in 40 different digital interpretations of 28 of the world’s most iconic artists, from Van Gough to Edvard Munch. Even if you’re not a huge fan of art, it’s sure to dust off your January blues, even for a few hours.

Bottomless Brunch With Alcohol-Free Sparkling Tea On A Floating Boat

Bottomless brunch. Been there; done that; wore the ‘hungover’ t-shirt? We’re sure you have but there’s a new bottomless brunch in town at Darcie & May Green that’s sure to twist your arm this January. This spectacular floating boat is hosting ‘tea-total’ brunch throughout the month where you can sip free-flowing naturally fermented sparkling teas while munching down on their iconic two-course brunch menu. If you’re looking for a healthy way to munch, you won’t get much better than this. Ps: we highly recommend ordering their award-winning banana bread as your last course – it’s chef’s kiss.

Kick Your January Blues To The Kerb With Mama Mia Brunch

For some, January is a time for self reflection and health kicks. If you plan to have a little debauchery in your month of wellness, Restaurant Ours might have what you’re looking for. This boujee restaurant draws in quite the celebrity crowd and they certainly draw in a crowd on Sundays too, all thanks to their Mama Mia brunch. No expense has been spared for this bonanza; you can expect an ABBA tribute act, theatrics and a three-course menu for £39. If you’re very thirsty, they have bottomless Sangria and prosecco £19 a pop.

Live The High Life With Afternoon Tea At The Top Of The Shard

It’s January, which means winter isn’t over by a long shot, thankfully neither is the winter-themed afternoon tea at TĪNG Lounge. Their futuristic tiers are sticking around until the end of the month and you’d be very silly to miss out, especially as it’s in one of London’s coolest and most iconic buildings. Cranberry finger sandwiches, prawn cocktail rolls and freshly baked scones are all part of the show but the real jewel in the crown is the white chocolate replica of the Shard that’s served over clouds of dry ice.

Scoff Honest Burger’s January Special

Cutting down, being adventurous or going cold turkey, Veganuary is a great way to try new foods and reduce your meat intake. It doesn’t have to be all salads and juices though. Honest Burgers have knuckled down to create an impressive plant-based burger that you’re sure to go patty over. They’re doing a vegan take on the signature beef patty with pulled shiitake mushrooms, topped with a signature teriyaki sauce, Applewood vegan cheese, grilled peppers, spring onions, lettuce and a homemade Japanese-inspired mayo that packs an umami punch.

Wake Up For Sunrise At Sky Garden

Waking up early… in January? We’ll admit that it’s not the most enticing of deals but rising early to visit Sky Garden is more than worth setting your alarm clock. The view is one of – if not the best, in the city. You’ll be treated to glorious scenes of well known landmarks like St Paul’s and Big Ben, not to mention the roaming you can do amongst their foliage-filled garden. Tickets are £8.50 and they include a hot drink and a pastry for your early bird troubles. Ps: the queues can be long so make sure you arrive early.

Dine In London’s Newest And Most Outrageous Italian

If you don’t know Big Mama Group, let us be the first to tell you that you’ve got your dining priorities all wrong. They’re the masterminds behind some of London’s most famous Italian restaurants and they’re opening another palace of cuisine in January. Jacuzzi will be an extravagant affair with glitter ball toilets, a retractable roof and plenty of other quirks. Oh, and did we mention that it’s set in an old bank? You can expect some old favourites on the menu too, like their cheese wheel pasta and their cheesy pizzas with punny names.

Sip Spicy Margaritas And Scoff Tasty Sushi In Shoreditch

It’s so cold that you’re beginning to wonder if you’ll ever feel sunlight on your freckled arms ever again? We love the dramatics. We can’t offer you vitamin D unfortunately (very expensive this time of year), but we can give you a restaurant recommendation that will make your taste buds feel like they’re in Japan. Apothecary East is one of the coolest spots in Shoreditch and they’re known to shake spicy margaritas and they also plate up some of the tastiest sushi around too. Chopsticks at the ready – this one’s too good to miss.
