And not just the chilled kind, although that would make the perfect complement to this very effervescent celebration… January 8th is National Bubble Bath Day, and I am so ready for it!
Nobody really knows where National Bubble Bath Day came from, but that are references to it that date all the way back to the 1990s so it probably came into being around that time.
So, what’s so special about a bubble bath? My husband doesn’t like them, but I absolutely love filling the tub with various scented concoctions, pouring a glass of something chilled and sinking below the bubbles to while away an hour or so. Apparently there’s even science behind why bubble baths are better – the layer of bubbles on top form an insulating layer which means that your bath stays warmer for longer!
I’ve been going rock climbing for a while now, and one of the things I’ve been incorporating recently to help deal with achy muscles is the Westlab Bathing Salts. There’s no real scientific evidence for this, but they smell amazing and I always feel so much more relaxed after taking a bath with a few handfuls of these in:
If you’re more of a traditionalist when it comes to your bubble bath habits but you still want to be doing your bit for sustainability, you can’t go far wrong with the refillable Bramley’s Bubble Bath. It’s scented with geranium, lavender and sweet orange which makes it perfect to unwind at the end of the night.
It’s also made in the UK with 100% natural ingredients, so you can experience all the bliss of a perfect bubble bath while knowing that your purchase helped support seagrass and it’s totally cruelty free.
I’m always trying to reduce my plastic waste, and so anything that I can get with minimal packaging is a win for me. And that pretty much equates to a trip to Lush! I’ve just gone and picked up a few bits to enjoy, including the very fun Party Popper bubble bar which I’m saving for a special occasion! I guess National Bubble Bath Day might be the perfect excuse?? It smells citrusy and refreshing, and I’m promised that it sounds just as good as it smells.
Also in my recent bubble bath haul, I picked up Ceridwen’s Cauldron from Lush as I’ve been experiencing some dry skin and I’ve heard good things about this one. It smells great – frankincense, rose and sandalwood – and it’s supposed to work wonders. You drop the whole thing in the bath, then lie back and enjoy the soothing bath oils before buffing your skin with the little muslin bag. I can’t wait!
And what’s a bubble bath without some candles? I read an article on Marie Claire about sustainable candles and was inspired to pick up some candles for my bubble bath! According to the article, there are a number of key things to look for including a natural wax and fragrance and avoiding all plastic if possible.
I’d like you all to STOP A MINUTE and buy this candle. Right now. It’s incredible – a small business in the UK, made from soy wax, AND it comes with seeds so you can plant herbs once you’ve finished the candle! What could be better? If you’ll excuse me, I’m off to order five…
If you’d rather a smaller scatter of candles, this shop on Etsy has a lot of different scents and they come decorated with dried petals which just looks adorable.
I’ve also been converted back to the Body Shop for their new Autumn/Winter collection for all the gorgeous smells. I remember being a teenager and being obsessed with their body butters – but there’s a new kid on the block! And it’s a body yoghurt, which I wasn’t expecting. The seasonal scent is Spiced Orange or Wild Pine this year, and I definitely went for Spiced Orange. It’s the perfect thing to finish up my bath as it soaks straight into damp skin and leaves me feeling smooth and moisturised.
What’s your favourite bath time ritual?
