Cult Edit: June 2022 – Snog, Marry Avoid: Beauty Products

The Cult Edit:
Snog, Marry, Avoid – Beauty Products

For this month’s Cult Edit we’re discussing our best and worst beauty products! From overpromised, luxury skincare to TikTok viral makeup. Here are the beauty products we would recommend, and those we definitely would not…

Snog: Glow Recipe Strawberry Smooth BHA+AHA Salicyic Serum

The packaging? Adorable. The Smell? Heavenly. The Results? Out of this world! The Glow Recipes newest release really is something to shout about! This serum contains strawberry water and a combination of acids to target congested skin helping you to achieve a smooth, even complexion. I love the way this serum leaves my skin feeling soft and nourished! Plus, the bottle looks so good- perfect for any shelfie!

Marry: Coco & Eve Smoothie Shower Gel in Lychee and Dragonfruit

The creative geniuses at Coco & Eve have done it again, somehow managing to get the essence of a tropical holiday in a bottle! This funky little shower gel not only smells divine it is also formulated with prebiotics so it works hard to give you healthier-looking skin. It’s gentle enough for all skin types and hydrates your skin as you shower thanks to the magic of coconut water! This shower gel is my newest obsession, If I could eat this, I would – it smells that good!

Avoid: Inika Organic Phytofuse Renew Cream Cleanser

I adore the Inika Organic Skincare range (the Phytofuse Renew exfoliator is next level!) but, in my eyes, this cleanser just misses the mark. I found the formula caused more breakouts than it cleared and I’m not too keen on the applicator either. It’s a shame because this product smells like a spa and I was really willing it to work for me!

Snog: Charlotte Tilbury Multi-Miracle Glow

This luxe product is an absolute staple, with it being a 3-in-1 it covers all of your beauty needs. The perfect cleanser for even the most stubborn of mascaras, a gorgeous overnight mask and an all rounder balm. The only reason it isn’t my ‘marry’ is that it can be slightly to rich for someone who has combo skin!

Marry: Pestle and Mortar Glow Drops

Ever since this was in a 2021 Cohorted beauty box I have been addicted to adding a couple of drops into my night moisturiser. These drops create the perfect natural face tan that I have always been searching for, and a little goes a long way!

Avoid: Zara Matte Lipstick

I had big expectations when Zara brought out their beauty range. I am a huge fan of everything from Zara and their perfumes are incredible so was expecting big things so you can understand my disappointment when this was one of the worst lipsticks I have ever tried. Chalky, drying and flaky, this lipstick is everything you do not want in one!

Snog: Fresh Umbrian Clay Pore-Purifying Face Mask

Since being introduced to this mask in the Cohorted x fresh Beauty Box, I have completely fallen in love with it. This clay mask deeply cleanses skin and minimises pores and shine without drying out the skin or clogging pores. Perfect for someone like me with combination skin, this mask does it all!

Marry: Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Light Wand

This illuminator by Charlotte Tilbury has to be a holy grail when it comes to getting that summertime glow! With a creamy texture that doesn’t remove your base makeup, the liquid highlight dispenses the perfect amount of product and blends well over the skin. This can also be used on collarbones and shoulders to achieve a body glow!

Avoid: The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution

After seeing TikTok horror stories about this product, it is definitely an avoid. This product has many positive reviews and claims to provide good results, but for someone like me with sensitive skin, this potent formula would be too much for my face to handle.

Snog: Maelys B-TIGHT Lift & Firm Booty Mask

This leave-on, cruelty-free, booty mask is a must-have! With clinically proven results through consumer testing with real women of all different shapes, sizes, and skin types; this tightening and firming mask visibly reduces the appearance of cellulite and firms the skin around your booty and thighs, whilst hydrating and keeping it plump for a perfectly smooth look.

Marry: Tan-Luxe The Water Hydrating Self Tan Water

Vitamin-infused, refreshing and hydrating with the added bonus of an effortless glowing tan. ‘The Water’ self-tanning spray is the perfect addition to your skincare and summer ‘glow-up’ routine. Just a quick spritz after you’ve applied your SPF or even over make-up! The crystal-clear formula is dispensed via an ultra-fine mist, meaning no mess when applying, and zero transfer onto clothing or sheets.

Avoid: Chanel Sublimage L’Eau De Démaquillage

The fresh and gel-like texture of SUBLIMAGE L’Eau de Démaquillage glides delicately over the face and eyes with a refreshing and invigorating feel. Nonetheless, this is a product that is most definitely targeted at ‘older’ skin. Its indulging and luxurious texture is too rich for skin that does not necessarily need the ‘extra’ hydration. For those with skin in need of a dense cleanser, this is the product for you, however, I personally would not recommend it for anyone under the age of 40.

Snog: Lumene Nordic-C Glow Lumenessence Brightening Beauty Lotion

A true staple in my skincare routine! This light beauty lotion, containing Vitamin C, naturally exfoliating AHAs and Hyaluronic Acid, leaves your skin feeling replenished after every use. It’s perfect to help make skin look prepped and energised in a morning or refreshed and hydrated after a long day.

Marry: Glossier Solution: Exfoliating Skin Perfector

I have super sensitive skin and find most chemical exfoliators to be way too harsh. This solution leaves skin feeling super smooth and has really helped reduce texture. I use the product once a week (at most twice) on a nighttime after cleansing, due to sensitivity. I’ve noticed my skin looking SO much brighter and it’s really helped with reducing the look of pores and overall oiliness – without any irritation. I love love love it!

Avoid: Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation

I adore so much of the Fenty Beauty range (Gloss Bomb speaks for itself!) but this foundation just wasn’t for me. I rushed to try this foundation after hearing amazing things, but it left my skin looking really dry and seemed to gather quite a lot. Even when using less product and going for a light coverage the same problems occurred – I’ve just never been able to get it to look great on my skin.

Snog: Refy Lip Collection

The latest showstopper from REFY is the new Lip Collection, containing the Lip Sculpt and Lip Gloss. There are six neutral shades of Lip Sculpt available, allowing you to define lips with the creamy, blendable lip liner. You can then set the lip liner with the innovative smudge-proof lip setter, designed to keep the colour in place for lasting wear, and providing a hydrating matte finish. Complete the look with the REFY Lip Gloss, a high-shine, clear lip gloss that has all the benefits of a balm. The gloss is long-lasting and nourishing, providing a glass-like finish. LOVE LOVE LOVE!

Marry: Glossier Balm Dot

A cult favourite, do-everything lip balm! Super hydrating and packed with antioxidants and natural emollients, such as; castor oil, beeswax, and Lanolin to really nourish dry skin. There are currently 10 different balm flavours available, with the Original doubling up as a skin salve. They are both dense and waxy in texture to ensure moisture is sealed in place all day, whilst also leaving lips looking smooth and hydrated, opposed to just shiny!

Avoid: The Ordinary Vit C Suspension

First of all, why does it feel like I’m rubbing sandpaper over my skin?! The texture is extremely gritty and greasy, which doesn’t allow for a very pleasant experience, especially when trying to self-care. In general, the formulation did not agree with my skin, and left a strange burning sensation after application. I love the majority of The Ordinary range, but unfortunately this one just missed the mark!

Snog: YSL Nu Bare Look Tint

A new product in my collectiom, but one I was utterly obsessed with after the first use. This buildable skin tint has been created with a 90% skincare base formula, ensuring a fresh and dewy complexion. It gives me the appearance of wearing foundation, whilst feeling like I have nothing on at all – perfect for the summer months! This is going to be a staple in my makeup bag for a long time to come!

Marry: Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base

I have lost count of how many pots of this miracle cream I have gone through! I have used it religously for almost 10 years, and if there was one product I would always recommend, it would be this. A moisturiser and primer all in one,  I use it as a base under makeup and it keeps my skin super hydrated and plump all day, as well as ensuring my makeup applies flawlessly.

Avoid: Urban Decay All Nighter Foundation

I’ve heard so many great things about this foundation, but unfortunately it did not agree with me at all! I found it far too drying, too thick and it certainly did not last ‘all night’ – after just a few hours it went blotchy and clung to any dry areas on my skin.
